en el lodo húmedo de septiembre,

y espera un maldito minuto.
Aquí tienes con tu vibra, tu estado de ánimo,
tu té caliente, un puñado de anacardos.
Una lista de verificación en un cuaderno
con cajas apiladas como ventanas de apartamentos,
abriendo contraventanas a la espera.

Tiempo: check
Silencio: check
Cada rasguño de tu lápiz propulsando
la nada.
Mira lo que sucede
mientras estás sumido en este acto de paciencia:
el mirto crepe muda su corteza,
la neblina ensangrienta el sol otra vez,
los gansos se van y regresan.
El cabello de tu hija crece,
sus preguntas se vuelven más insistentes.
Su forma ocupa cada vez más
espacio en la entrada.

Every scratch of your pencil propelling
the nothingness.
Look what all is happening
while you’re deep in this act of patience:
the crepe myrtle sheds its bark,
the haze bloodies the sun again,
the geese leave and return.
Your daughter’s hair grows longer,
her questions grow more insistent.
The shape of her takes up more and more
space in the doorway.
What’s that? She asks. What’s that?
A cloud, you say. A riverbed.
A hunk of stone.
